The emergency landing took place on the busy road in Adazi, in Latvia’s Pieriga region, on the evening of Saturday, 4th May, with breathtaking footage showing the aircraft miraculously avoiding the cars on the road.
The short clip, filmed from a car going in the other direction, shows the single-engine aircraft landing on the right side of the road with cars in front of it and behind it before its left wing clips a signpost, sending it veering dangerously to its left.
But the pilot manages to keep the aircraft on the road, with a second piece of footage showing the small plane on the hard shoulder on the right side of the road after having come to a stop.
The video cuts to a driver passing by the aircraft, which appears remarkably undamaged as people mill around it.
Latvian media said that the National Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Bureau is investigating the incident. Reports suggest that the aircraft suffered a mechanical failure, causing its pilot to perform an emergency landing.
Latvian media said that the plane was a Tecnam P2008 JC, manufactured in 2018, a two-seater aircraft with a single engine and approximately 100 horsepower.
