A father and son both died when the worried dad went to see why his son was late returning from a party and they had a head-on collision in a freak crash on an unlit road.

The tragedy was set in motion when the family of Pedro Henrique Sena da Silva, 19, realised he had not come home from a Christmas party in Grande Natal, in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Norte, on 18th December.

His 81-year-old dad, Franciso Pequeno da Silva, had been worried that his son had not come home as the lad knew they had a job to do together the next day and became worried he might have had an accident. As a result, he set out looking for him on his pushbike.

The elderly man who had married late in life had apparently been overjoyed when he had a son with his young wife and father and son had only recently started working together. Although it was unclear what the business was.

But as the dad checked the route to the party venue on the unlit road. He was hit by his son’s motorbike on a sharp bend as he was apparently riding home at the time.

Both men, according to local media, were severely injured and died as paramedics were rushing them to hospital.

State Highway Police, according to local media, believe son Pedro was speeding on the village dirt road when he collided with his dad’s bicycle.

Police, who are investigating the deaths, have sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations.
