This is the moment a 78-year-old cyclist is knocked flying when he is hit by a car as he rides his bike off a pavement and onto a zebra crossing without looking.

CCTV footage shows the cyclist bounce off the car like a rag doll in the town of Goleniow in north-western Poland’s West Pomeranian Voivodeship region.

The OAP, whose name has not been revealed, is seen cycling along a footpath and then turning sharply onto the pedestrian crossing without looking.

He cycles straight into the side of the car and is knocked flying off his bike. He is left lying in the road as a number of passersby rush to his aid. Fortunately he suffered nothing worse than bruises.

Police were called to the scene and determined the accident was the pensioner’s fault and issued him with a 250 PLN (50 GBP) fine.

Police spokeswoman Anna Gembala said: “The 78-year-old man caused the collision.

“First of all, he entered the pedestrian crossing on a bicycle, which is not allowed as he was supposed to get off the bike, and secondly, he did not make sure he could safely go onto the zebra crossing.”

The video was shared online by Robert Krupowicz, the Mayor of Goleniow, who also blamed the cyclist for the accident.

Mayor Krupowicz said: “A pavement is not the proper place for bicycles and while crossing a zebra, a cyclist should get off the bike, not go across without even looking.”
