Woman Fatally Runs Over Grandmother In Failed Reverse Attempt

A woman accidentally killed her grandma by pinning her with her car against a wall after mistakenly rushing forward while trying to reverse out of a parking spot.

Surveillance cameras captured the fatal accident outside a house in Changzhou. In China’s eastern Jiangsu Province, on the afternoon of 14th January.

The woman, not identified in local media, was seen entering the vehicle, which appeared to be a brand-new Volkswagen ID.3 electric, parked in front of the entrance.

Reportedly unfamiliar with the new car’s operation, she seemingly tried to reverse but accidentally drove forward.

Meanwhile, her grandmother, also not named, sat on the stairs in front of the car picking vegetables, oblivious to the moving vehicle.

Without any time to react, she was struck by her granddaughter and was briefly wedged between the car and the wall.

The driver immediately stopped the car and rushed outside in panic.

At that moment, a man ran over after hearing the commotion. Together, they attempted to administer first aid to the grandmother.

Sadly, the old woman did not survive the severe injuries and later pronounced dead.

Local authorities have not yet released any further information.

Lawyer Qin Ming from Beijing Jing Shi (Zhengzhou) Law Firm explained that in cases like this happening in one’s own yard or garage. It constitutes a crime of negligent homicide.

If the circumstances are less severe, the punishment is imprisonment for less than three years.

According to the attorney, however, the woman might be able to avoid any jail time if she is forgiven by the family or if other circumstances mitigate the offence.
