A suspected drink driver allegedly responsible for a car crash which saw a four-year-old boy has killed himself two days after the accident.

The fatal car crash involving five vehicles – a Nissan X-Trail, an Opel Astra, a Renault Sandero, a Toyota Corolla and a VAZ-2114 took place on a motorway near the city of Penza in south-western Russia’s Penza Oblast region.

Reports state a four-year-old boy only named as Konstantin who was in the VAZ-2114 at the time of the accident died from the injuries he suffered in the crash while his mother Irina Schepina, 23, was hospitalised. One other unnamed driver was hospitalised in the accident.

The driver of Nissan, identified as Andrey Fedrushkov, 50, was reportedly seen as responsible for the accident but fled the scene. Reports state he is believed to have been drunk at the time of the crash.

The police found him a day later after initiating a criminal case into the matter but two days after the crash he was found hanged.

Netizen ‘Pavel Ilyin’ said: “He would have been so much better off supporting this woman with money. Now his death is considered a tragedy too.”

And ‘Daria Nikityuk’ added: “What else can we expect from an idiot like him? You wouldn’t have been able to come up with any better plan.”

While ‘Inna Modina’ commented: “He felt guilty. He could have come clean… I feel sorry for all parties in this situation. I think this man simply could not forgive himself for that, looks like he had a heart and a soul after all.”
