Victims Muhammad Khaled Ahmed Al Hussein and sister Rasha – aged around four and seven – were taken to hospital but died of their injuries.

Their refugee tent – in a makeshift camp in the village of Azmarin, in north-western Syria – burst into flames on Monday, 27th February.

Two families reportedly shared the tent after losing their homes in the double quake that killed more than 50,000 people.

The children’s father, who has not been named, told local media that he was outside the camp at the time of the fire.

The tent had turned to ashes by the time he got there.

The father said seven children had been rushed to hospital, with two of them dying the following day (28th February).

A second earthquake of 7.6 magnitude hit the same region again at 11:24am local time on 6th February, causing even more damage.

Over 50,000 people in Turkey and Syria have died and more than 160,000 buildings have reportedly collapsed.
