This pretty young mother-of-two has been shot dead at her home in Brazil and her boyfriend – who has since gone on the run – is the main suspect.

Ingridy Cordeiro da Silva, 27, was shot dead at her home in the city of Macapa in the northern Brazilian state of Amapa at around 6.30pm on 11th December.

Relatives of the young woman managed to take her to the local emergency ward, but she passed away at around 9pm on the same date.

The prime suspect is the victim’s boyfriend, who has not been found and is believed to be on the run.

He is wanted by the police on suspicion of femicide. His identity has not been disclosed.

The young woman leaves behind two daughters from a previous relationship.

The victim’s funeral took place on 12th December at her grandmother’s house in the same housing estate where she was killed.

Shortly before Silva’s death, local and national security forces launched a “mega-operation” to combat organised crime in the Macapaba housing estate, which is located in one of the most dangerous areas of Macapa.

Amapa State registered a femicide rate of 1.7 per 100,000 women in 2019. While murder rates are on the decline in Brazil, femicide cases remain on the rise.

The search for the suspect continues.
