A young man has been arrested for stabbing his ex-girlfriend to death outside her apartment block in front of their four-year-old son.
Bruna Giovana da Silva, 24, was stabbed to death outside her apartment block in the municipality of Bauru in the south-eastern Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on the afternoon of 12th December.
The crime was captured on CCTV, which led to the arrest of 26-year-old Luiz Antonio de Araujo Feliz the following day on suspicion of femicide.
According to local media, CCTV footage showed Silva arriving at the victim’s apartment block at around 1.30pm by car. She got out and walked with her four-year-old son, Heitor, towards the building when another car suddenly pulled up and Feliz got out.
He ran towards Silva and stabbed her multiple times from behind until she fell to the ground. He then ran back to the car and the boy ran after him.
The suspect then got into the car and sped off, and the child ran back towards his mother who was lying on the ground.
The crime was witnessed by residents and passersby, one of whom took the child away from his mother and another who called the emergency services.
Paramedics later arrived at the scene and found the victim dead.
The police received a tip-off the following day about a car located on a street on the edge of town matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle.
Police officer Frederico Jose Simao told local media: “The police went to the scene and the suspect was in the vehicle sleeping. He confessed to the crime and pointed out the location of the knife used to commit the femicide, which still had traces of blood.”
According to Simao, Feliz told the police that he had gone to the apartment block to give his ex their son’s child support money.
Simao told local media: “He alleges getting into an argument with the victim and, in a moment of nervousness, stabbed her three times using a knife he had in his car.”
Feliz has been placed in preventive detention and will answer to charges of femicide for which he could face between 12 and 30 years in prison.
