Shakira has revealed her footballer husband Gerard Pique told her “he did not want a future with a bitter woman” during an argument.
The Colombian pop star made the revelation at the presentation of a documentary about her El Dorado world tour which was postponed when she lost her voice in 2017, putting the future of her career as a singer at risk.
The singer said she was left feeling “very angry” after losing her voice and said her husband, Barcelona defender Pique, 32, “needed me to speak, Gerard saw me end up crying so many times.”
The 42-year-old added that the footballer was tough on her to try to get a reaction, saying: “He told me that he didn’t want a future with a bitter woman, that everybody was making music out there whilst I was locked up at home with the children. Get out there and start working.”
The singer, who is the mother to Pique’s two sons Milan and Sasha, described losing her voice as “the darkest moment of her life” and added: “My son Sasha told me that he was praying to Baby Jesus and the Virgin so that his mum would speak again.”
The El Dorado world tour was scheduled to begin on 8th November 2017 but after postponing the first shows Shakira announced on 14th November she had suffered a haemorrhage on her right vocal cord in late October. The tour was suspended until June 2018 after she recovered her voice.
