PM Rama confirmed the sad news during a live TV interview during which he walked out of shot, unable to finish and reportedly breaking down in tears.

Reports said that at least 40 people have been killed by the 6.4-magnitude earthquake that hit western Albania on Tuesday, while hundreds have been injured and several are still missing.

It was the European country’s biggest earthquake in 40 years and the region was still experiencing aftershocks on Thursday morning, according to local media.

The PM’s son, Gregor Rama, earlier posted on social media: “Among the many victims of this tragedy is a person close to me, along with her brother, mum, and dad.”

He added that they were “found under the rubble”.

According to local media, the family of four was at home when the earthquake struck.

Reports said that Gregor and Kristi met two years ago and their relationship was largely kept out of the public eye as the PM’s son prefers to remain out of the media spotlight.

According to local media, even the PM could not hold back the tears when he was asked about his future daughter-in-law’s death and he promptly left the interview.

Kristi Reci was a medical student, she was studying dermatologist.

The local authorities are still searching for 25 missing people while at least 40 have been killed and over 658 have been injured in the devastating earthquake.
