This is the moment an elderly driver crashes into a supermarket and narrowly misses a pregnant checkout worker who has to crawl on all fours out of the way.

The incident took place in the municipality of Itai in the south-eastern Brazilian state of Sao Paulo on 29th September when the elderly driver got confused while operating an automatic car.

The footage starts with the pregnant checkout worker, unnamed but aged 29, wiping down the counter.

All of a sudden, she recoils in horror and a split second later, a large SUV smashes through the front of the shop and hits her checkout as items come crashing down around her.

The mum-to-be narrowly avoids being crushed under the SUV’s wheels as she crawls out of the way.

The SUV driver is then seen sheepishly reversing his vehicle as the footage ends.

Local officials quoted in media outlet Globo said the woman did not suffer any serious injuries in the incident. She has however been given a week off work to recover from the fright.

The fire department said that the driver was an elderly man who was not used to driving an automatic car and lost control while parking.

The local police reported that while the damage was significant, no one was injured and they have not opened a case.
