This is the moment a SUV driver seems to intentionally hit two women riding on a cycling lane in a Chinese city before fleeing from the scene.

The incident took place in the city of Haikou in the Chinese province of Hainan at around 6pm on 19th August.

Two women were knocked off their bikes by the SUV driver who failed to stop at the scene.

One eyewitness told local media that they were shocked by the sound of the impact and ran over to the injured cyclists to check on them.

Meanwhile, both women were rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.

According to local media, one woman died of her injuries in hospital while the other victim is still receiving treatment.

The police investigation is ongoing.

In the CCTV footage, the two women are seen riding along the cycling lane as a single scooter occupies the main lane.

A white SUV approaches and apparently accelerates while moving over to the cycling lane.

The driver seems to change lane to either overtake the scooter or to intentionally hit one or both of the women.

The vehicle then rams both bikes at speed, sending the two women flying through the air before landing hard on the tarmac.
