This is the moment a restaurant waiter repeatedly beats a disabled woman with a belt before dragging her outside on to the street.
The incident was filmed in a hotel restaurant in the town of Kangundo in the southern Kenyan county of Machakos, and the footage has been widely shared on social media.
In the footage, a young man is seen whipping a woman sitting on the floor with a belt before dragging her outside.
The incident sparked outrage online and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua called for the suspect’s immediate arrest.
The governor has since confirmed that the suspect has been detained and will be brought before a judge on assault charges next week.
Mutua tweeted: “The young man has been arrested will be arraigned in court. As a society, we should not just sit and watch abuse of others among us.”
He added: “I watched with disgust the video, allegedly from a restaurant in Kangundo, of a young man assaulting a woman. I am shocked at this violent act.
“Those captured in the video watching without doing or saying anything also need to be disciplined.”
According to local media, the disabled woman was hospitalised after the beating and was later released.
The authorities have yet to track her down.
It is currently unclear what caused the attack.
