This is the moment the Russian authorities release a tranquillised bear back into the wild after it gave cops and wouldn’t leave during a two-night walkabout in a village.

The brown bear (Ursus arctos), believed to be about one year old, was first spotted in the village of Solyanoye in the western Russian republic of Chuvashia where it frightened residents over two nights, according to reports.

The stocky mammal was then seen approaching the city of Cheboksary in the same region and the authorities tried to drive it back into the wilderness.

However, they were unsuccessful with their attempts and they had to use a tranquilliser dart to neutralise the dangerous animal.

In the footage, two officials are seen freeing the bear from a cage in the back of their van into the forest.

As the sleepy animal remains motionless on the ground, one of the men uses a tree branch to prod the dozy bear to apparently make it move further into the forest.

According to experts, the bear was no more than one year old.

The local authorities are still trying to establish where the bear originally came from and why it approached the urban area, according to reports.
