Doctors in Russia have managed to save the penis of the teenager who was electrocuted while crawling around on top of a train for social media likes – but had to amputate part of his hand.
The operation took place in Russia’s capital Moscow with local media saying that the teenager had been electrocuted in Elektrougli, just outside the capital.
The 15-year-old boy had reportedly climbed onto the roof of a train in a train yard and was keeping low to avoid the overhead wires, but then came into contact with the current collector known as a pantograph. It is fixed on the train roof and collects the electricity needed to power it.
Doctors had to amputate part of one of his hands during surgery as it could not be saved but they did manage to preserve his genitals, with local media saying that after they have healed, they should be completely functional.
Local reports said that the young man, who has not been named, but who is from Moscow, had been in the area with his sister on the day of the accident.
Local media had reported that he had been rushed to hospital with a “charred penis”. It was later revealed however that most fo the charring was from his trousers that had melted in the current and left the member blackened and smouldering, to the shock of eyewitnesses.
His friends reportedly said he is receiving psychological counselling to help come to terms with his ordeal.
The police are investigating the incident.
