A 16-year-old girl gave birth in a shopping centre restroom with the help of her shocked mum who had accompanied her to a job interview and had no idea her teen daughter was pregnant.

The incident reportedly occurred at a shopping centre in Stary Oskol, in Russia’s Belgorod Oblast.

The young girl, whose name was not disclosed, had somehow managed to hide the full-term pregnancy from her parents and carried on going to school as normal.

She had even scheduled a job interview at the “Evropa” store located in the centre, on 16th May, apparently having convinced her mum she needed some extra pocket money.

The woman accompanied her to the store when her daughter began having contractions.

The mum did not know what was going on at first and joined her daughter to the restroom.

There, she shockingly discovered the teen was going into labour and helped her deliver the baby next to the stalls.

Phone footage shows the young mother later being wheeled away on a gurney by two paramedics, one holding up an IV while stunned bystanders observe.

Following closely behind them was a third paramedic carrying the newborn infant.

The medic could be heard saying (in Russian): “It’s a boy.”

The healthy baby boy was reportedly born weighing 2.3 kilogrammes (5.07 lbs) and measuring 47 centimetres (18.5 inches).

He is currently in the neonatal unit, and the young mother has been taken to the intensive care unit, but doctors promise she will recover in no time.

The father, also named, is reportedly the girl’s 18-year-old boyfriend.

The two had been dating for some time and despite warnings from adults, managed to get pregnant. The age of consent in Russia is 16 but it is believed the baby would have been conceived when she was 15 when she was underage.

The teen mum had a relatively small baby bump which is reportedly how she was able to hide her condition from her family.

The family reportedly said it does not intend to file a police report against the 18-year-old father for having illegal relations with a minor.

It is unclear if the boy was aware he would become a dad but he told local media he was happy with the outcome and is already looking for a job to support his family.

The Belgorod Region Prosecutor’s Office announced an investigation into the incident given the girl’s age.

It said in a statement: “The regional prosecutor’s office has organised an investigation into a social media post about potential violations of the rights of an underage girl who gave birth in a public place.

“During the investigation, an assessment will be made regarding the compliance of the authorised bodies, including preventive system institutions, with legislation on the protection of minors’ rights, family welfare, as well as the causes and conditions of the incident.

“If grounds are found, comprehensive prosecutorial measures will be taken.”
