A woman who had popped out to buy a bunch of bananas was astonished when she came home with a USD 300,000 fortune.

Lucky Nancy Webb – from Appomattox, a town in the US state of Virginia – was going back to get the fruit they did not have in stock on her shopping trip the previous day.

But while she was at the shops, she bought a scratchcard and could not believe the USD 300,000 (GBP 242,250) win when she picked off the panels in the car park.

Virginia Lottery said in a statement obtained by Newsflash on Tuesday, 23rd May: “When Nancy Webb went shopping on a Saturday, she wanted to pick up some bananas with the rest of her groceries, but the store was out.

“So, the Appomattox woman went back the next day when they were in stock. This time, while she was there, she also bought a 100X the Money ticket from the Virginia Lottery.”

They added: “Ms. Webb, who says she doesn’t play the Lottery very often, scratched her winning ticket in the store’s parking lot.

“She bought it at the Kroger at 7789 Richmond Highway in Appomattox.”

They did not reveal how Nancy plans to use her windfall.
