Newcastle United legend Faustino Asprilla has told his fans to “write any silly thing” to him because he feels alone in a hospital bed after eating decomposed food.
Colombian legend Asprilla, 50, made the comment in a post to his 688,000 fans after he reportedly suffered a salmonella infection from eating decomposed food.
The post shows Asprilla laying on a hospital bed with a tablet device resting on his torso. An intravenous (IV) drip can be seen in his left arm while he smiles at the camera.
The former Magpies forward captioned the post: “I am looking at my Instagram and I noticed nobody has written to me. Write any silly thing to me because I am over here getting better.”
His request seemingly did not go unanswered as the post received over 33,000 ‘likes’ 10 hours after its posting.
Former Colombia teammate Victor Aristizabal wrote: “I write to you every day… Or do you want the girls to write you more?.”
Colombian pop-singer ‘pipebueno’ wrote: “Man, the thing is we all already know that WEEDS NEVER DIE! Why write to you if we know you are going to be causing problems again in a few days!”
‘caremonja’ commented: “The fact they changed your serum to rum says a lot!”
The post marks the third time Asprilla has been hospitalised in recent months after he made similar posts on 26th November and 10th October from a hospital bed with an IV drip.
Local media report the previous times he received medical attention were for problems with his left arm and unrelated to his latest visit to hospital.
Asprilla played for Newcastle for two seasons, scoring nine goals in 48 Premier League appearances and nine goals in 11 European matches.
