This is the moment a woman who climbed on the side of the bridge to take pictures slips and falls into the water where she is left fighting for her life with no one above realising she is there.
The incident took place at the Majiazhou Park scenic area near the city of Jiujiang in Xiushui County in the Chinese province of Jiangxi on 15th August.
Local media said the woman, name not reported, was filming with her phone when she lost her footing on the bridge.
In the footage, the woman appears to have climbed down to a ledge from the pavement to film something in the near distance.
While scanning the scene with her phone, her right leg appears to slip off the ledge and she suddenly falls to the river below.
In the second video, the woman is seen falling and apparently hitting the riverbank hard before slipping into the water headfirst.
She is seen moving in the river before struggling and ending up face down in the water.
Xiao Zhonghua from the Xiushui County Winter Swimming Association told local media that he was swimming in Xiushui River with a group of friends when they came across a woman’s body in the water.
They dragged the woman ashore and called the emergency services, however, paramedics on the scene could only confirm that she had died.
Zhonghua said they watched the CCTV footage of the incident afterwards and discovered that the woman was suspected of filming with her mobile phone, adding that the river is about two metres (6.6 feet) deep where she fell, and the current is not particularly strong there.
However, it is possible the woman suffered a serious injury in the fall and was unable to swim to safety after slipping into the river.
Several other drowning incidents have been reported in the scenic area in recent years.
The woman’s death remains under investigation.
