The relationship between the two suspects is unclear.

The Nicaraguan army confirmed 10 soldiers intervened in the arrest and the couple and the seized cash were turned in to the local authorities.

It is unclear if they will be charged or the motive behind the smuggling. USD is reportedly widely accepted in Nicaragua despite the official currency being the Nicaraguan Cordoba (NIO).
