This is the moment a pedestrian waiting for the lights to turn green is buried under a huge tree at a traffic island during a storm in the Netherlands.

Footage shows how the unnamed woman is hit by the treetop of a large collapsing broad-leafed tree at a busy road in The Hague on Thursday, 2nd November.

Wearing dark clothes and a bag, she is standing in the patch for pedestrians between two busy lanes.

It takes around 15 seconds until passersby approach the collapsed tree to check whether anyone has been harmed.

The woman was eventually freed by the local emergency services and taken to a hospital.

There has been no detailed information on the kind and severity of her injuries. However, they were not life-threatening, say local media.

The incident occurred as storm Ciaran caused havoc across Europe. Overall, at least 16 people have died in different countries.
