This is the moment firefighters rescue a builder trapped at the bottom of a 100-foot well after he fell down and became stuck in the mud at the bottom for over six hours.

The incident took place in the district of Shuangliu in the city of Chengdu in the southern Chinese province of Sichuan after the emergency services received a report that a construction worker had tumbled down the wall and became trapped in the thick mud.

Reports said that two fire engines and a team of 10 firefighters were sent to the site to rescue the unnamed man.

The construction worker was said to be conscious as the firefighting team reportedly spent over six hours rescuing him from the 30-metre (98-foot) well.

He was near-buried in the muddy base of the well which was also taking water from another nearby well, according to local media.

With the worker sinking further into the muddy base, rescuers reportedly decided to flood the well with water while firefighters dug around his trapped feet.

Firefighter spokesperson Zhou Qiang said the worker was stuck so firm that they could not “simply pull him out” or use machinery as “the base well [was] at the point of collapse”.

He added that firefighters “took turns to dig out the mud by hand”.

According to local media, the rescue operation took over six hours and the construction worker was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
