A woman has fallen to her death during a rooftop terrace party after arguing with her boyfriend who took almost an hour to come down to check on her.

The incident took place during a party in the city of Belo Horizonte in the south-eastern Brazilian state of Minas Gerais on 20th November.

Property manager Hilma Balsamao de Morais, 38, fell to her death from a height of 15 metres (49 feet) onto the building’s patio.

According to a witness, the woman’s boyfriend, Gustavo de Almeida Veloso, who owns the penthouse, took 50 minutes to come down to where Morais fell, only doing so when called by the police.

An anonymous witness told local media: “When the police called, he came down. He had two lawyers or representatives, we don’t know who they are, with him.”

At the time of the incident, a neighbour heard an argument coming from Veloso’s apartment where Morais had been since early afternoon.

He then heard a loud noise and went to the patio where he found the victim lying on the ground with injuries to her head and body. He called the emergency services who quickly arrived on the scene.

According to the incident report, Veloso told the police that he broke up with Morais, causing her to turn angry and throw a bottle on the floor.

The couple, who had both been drinking alcohol, then started arguing. According to Veloso, he told his son to film the argument on his mobile phone.

Morais then allegedly grabbed the teenager’s phone and threw it on the floor. It is then that Veloso claims the woman threw herself from the fourth floor terrace.

Veloso also denies assaulting his ex-girlfriend.

According to the police, the other partygoers claimed they were not on the terrace at the time of the incident and were unable to explain what had happened.

Morais’ family members said the pair had been going out for seven months. They found it suspicious that Veloso did not attend Morais’ funeral and has not reached out to them.

The exact cause of the woman’s death is being investigated, and the possibility of homicide has not been ruled out.
