A hapless driver in Brazil has ‘lost’ his car in a huge traffic jam and had to roam the motorway for half an hour on foot to find it.

The man got out of his car at a service station, possibly to use the bathroom, on the gridlocked BR-101 motorway in the municipality of Sao Goncalo in the south-eastern state of Rio de Janeiro.

A passenger travelling with him took over the wheel and she remained in the barely crawling 4-kilometre (2.5-mile) tailback that formed when a lorry overturned at around 5am on 23rd November.

However, the traffic started flowing again and the woman was obliged to continue driving. When the man emerged minutes later, he could not find his car.

He was filmed from aerial cameras at around 8am, weaving in and out of the numerous cars on the motorway as they waited to pass through toll booths in desperate search of his own vehicle.

During the search, he could be seen borrowing drivers’ mobile phones to call the woman to locate his car, finally tracking it down at around 8.30am.

He apparently took the mishap in good humour and was even spotted laughing once inside his own vehicle.
