Victim Zeina Kanjo was found dead in her home in Beirut, Lebanon, after telling her husband Ibrahim Ghazal, 33, she was divorcing him.

Ghazal fled to Turkey and then to Sweden, where he has now been arrested on an Interpol warrant requested by Lebanon’s public prosecutor Judge Ghassan Oueidat.

Reports claimed that Ghazal tried to justify the killing by saying he had caught his wife cheating with another man.

Zeina’s lifeless body was found in her apartment in the district of Ain el-Mraisseh in the early morning of 30th January, 2021.

And in a secretly recorded phone call between Ghazal and Zeina’s sister Ruba he admitted he had clamped his hand over her mouth when she began screaming.

He said: “What else should I have done after catching her with someone else in my house?”

News of his arrest was shared by the lawyer and representative of the family of Kanjo Ashraf Mousawi on Thursday, 29th December.

Lebanese authorities are currently waiting for Ghazal’s extradition from Sweden in order to initiate proceedings against him in Beirut.
