According to local media, security guards at the Directorate of Culture of the Cusco region alerted the Tourist Police, who arrested the alleged offenders and transferred them to the nearest checkpoint.

According to the Head of the Archaeological Park of Machu Picchu, Jose Bastante, the foreigners were arrested as they were changing their clothes after taking naked snaps.

Bastante told local reporters: “Despite the instructions and recommendations given to tourists from the moment they buy their entrance tickets, some bad ones continue to perform these types of immodest acts. We must understand that this is a sacred space, this is Machu Picchu, not Disneyland, “.

The Culture Department of Cusco said that they noted the tourists’ behaviour before they were expelled from Machu Picchu and police were notified.

The tourists do not have the right to re-enter the ancient citadel, however, they have not been fined.

According to local media, the possibility of fines for these kinds of actions will be discussed at the next meeting of Machu Picchu’s Technical Committee.

This is the second case of this nature so far this year, in March two foreign tourists were also arrested and expelled from Machu Picchu for photographing themselves naked.
