Police say the young woman whose bloodstained partially clothed body was found lying by a roadside had been killed by her boyfriend who claims she received messages from a love rival when they were in bed together.

Munyaradzi Matemera, 47, is accused of stabbing and beating his girlfriend Patricia Chimbodzi to death while they were having a romantic encounter which was interrupted when she received messages from another man.

He has now been arrested and faces murder charges with the court ordering him to be remanded in custody until 27th February in Chinhoyi in northern Zimbabwe.

Prosecutors say that he claimed they had driven to a remote spot where they parked for what was described as a romantic encounter.

But he allegedly flew into a rage when she got a text message followed up by a phone call from another man.

He reportedly admitted beating her with his hands and also hitting her with a beer bottle, and then left her bleeding profusely at the side of the road only partially clothed.

Her body with her trousers pulled down after being allegedly thrown from the car was discovered at a nearby rubbish tip earlier this month, and the boyfriend has now been arrested.

Parts of the beer bottle that he allegedly hit her with were found in his car which matched fragments found near the body.
