This boy aged three survived after his mother jumped out of a ninth-floor window carrying him and his infant sister.

The incident took place on Chicherina Street in the Babushkinsky district of the Russian capital Moscow when Liudmila Sokolova, 36, reportedly jumped out of a window in her ninth-floor flat with her nine-month-old daughter and three-year-old son.

Local media report the mother and her daughter died instantly in the fall while the three-year-old survived the impact and is now in hospital in a serious condition.

Reports state that 10 minutes before jumping from the window the mother had called emergency services saying her daughter was feeling sick. The emergency services rushed to the scene but nobody answered the door to the flat.

The police reportedly found a note in her flat asking them not to arrest her husband Vitaly, who was reportedly at work at the time of the incident, for her death.

She is said to have written that he was a great person who she loved and had no part in her decision, writing: “Please do not put him in prison”.

Friends noted that the 36 year old had been an active user on the Russian VKontakte social media network after the birth of their second child, a daughter.

The young woman who graduated with a literature degree had written: ” We have become more, life has become more fun .”

But she reportedly became depressed after her life changed from listening to rock ‘n’ roll, and being a student rebel to becoming a mother with the daily grind of family chores. Pictures show that she had tried hard to be a good mother, and everybody had assumed that she was as cheerful as she appeared to be.

Before she died, there were fewer social media entries and some expressed her frustration: “Finally, I had some time with my husband and without a child!”

The motive for the suicide remains unclear and a police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
