This shocking video shows a terrified man sobbing after discovering a snake has slithered up his trouser leg while he rested on a roadside bench.

Footage taken in the county of Pingchang, which is in Bazhong in Sichuan Province in south-western China, shows the unnamed pedestrian appearing to be calling the emergency services on his phone on 25th April.

The hapless punter, who had reportedly been resting on the bench, is surrounded by a large crowd, with bystanders staring at what appears to be a tail sticking out his right trouser leg.

According to reports, the non-venomous small snake had slithered up his trousers and wrapped itself around his calf, but the man was too frightened to pull it out.

In the video, onlookers can be heard urging him to “cut your trousers open with scissors” and “call the fire service!”

He can be heard sobbing while fearing the snake would bite him.

But as the video ends, a member of the crowd has yanked the snake out by its tail.

The pedestrian curls his feet away in fear as an onlooker stomps on the animal.

Arriving firefighters later identified it as a harmless king ratsnake (Elaphe carinata).

They took it away, but it is unclear whether it was seriously injured by the crowd.

The pedestrian is not thought to have been harmed.
