Teen Girl Who Went For Drive Lightly-Clothed Froze To Death After Crashing Into Ditch

A teenage girl who went for a night drive in just her pyjamas froze to death when she crashed into a ditch as temperatures dropped to -15 degrees Celsius, say police.

Daniela Itzel Velazquez, 17, told her mum she was going for a drive when she left the family home in Wrightstown, Wisconsin State, USA, on 28th January.

Her crashed car was found in a ditch in the early hours of the morning with her shoes and phone on the road,

Daniela’s body was later found just a quarter of a mile away, wearing just the PJ trousers and the sweatshirt she had been wearing when she left home.

Police from Brown County Sheriff’s Office say she had died from hypothermia.

At a press conference on 31st January, Brown County Sheriff’s Office Captain David Potea said: “She was definitely not dressed for the weather.

“And being outside in conditions, much like they are today, for any extended period of time is going to result in fatality in a short period of time.”

He added: “She was just driving around, which was basically what she told her mother before she left, ‘I’m going for a drive’.

“It’s hard to know what her thought process was.”

He went on: “At this time, our sincere sympathy goes out to the family, Daniela’s friends.

“It’s a hard time for them, and they do ask for privacy during this time.”
