The incident in which the older man aged 20 was shot happened after Henderson Police Department officers responded to a call reporting that two people suspected of trying to break into vehicles were back in the neighbourhood.

The caller said that the two were on site between Tiger Lily Way and Viewmont Drive on the morning of Christmas Day, December 25.

It was later revealed that one of the things stolen during one of the break-ins was a Glock 19, and one of the first officers to arrive on the scene was Officer Jordan Hijar.

He informed dispatch to say “they probably have a gun on them” and later spotted and attempted to stop the pair identified as Ozzie Seeman, 20, and a 15-year-old boy but they ran off.

The officers body camera was activated and he can be seen chasing and saying “get over here now” and “let me see your hands” as he chased him down the suburban street.

As I started to catch up, the camera shows that the older man with the gun then turned towards the officer who fired back first, causing the 20 year old to fall into the pavement sitting up before then falling backwards.

The bullets hit him in the leg and in the shoulder.

The other suspect, the 15 year old was not named, was later called by another officer further down.

The injured man was taken to the Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center where he continues to be treated after surviving the shooting.

He has now been charged with two counts of burglary involving a motor vehicle and one count each of grand larceny of a gun as well as resisting arrest and possessing stolen property.

The 15-year-old is being held in a juvenile detention centre and also faces charges of burglary from a car, conspiracy to commit burglary, theft and resisting arrest.

A separate investigation is going on into whether the shooting was according to department standards.
