This is the moment a teen girl’s hair gets stuck in a swimming pool’s drainage system and she is only saved when her hair was cut after spending nearly two minutes battling for breath.
The incident was filmed at a home in the municipality of Agua Branca in the Brazilian state of Piaui on the afternoon of 5th December.
The 13-year-old victim was only saved when a family member cut her hair with a knife to free it from the pool’s drainage system.
The youngster, identified as Maria Rita Pimentel, was reportedly submerged for nearly two minutes after her hair became trapped.
In the video, a family member is seen eventually cut her hair free with a knife before others carry out chest compressions on the motionless teen.
The girl’s mother Rozana Pimentel told the news site G1 that the accident took place while her daughter was playing with some friends in the pool.
She said: “She dove in and her hair got stuck. She thought someone stepped on her hair, tried to get back up, but couldn’t.
“That’s when my other daughter realised it was the drainage suction. She remained in control, held her breath, and started kicking her legs so someone would see her.
“They jumped in the water and tried to free her hair, but couldn’t so they then turned off the electricity and that did not work either.”
One of the group members used a knife to cut the girl’s hair and CPR was carried out until the teenager came around.
She was taken to hospital and kept under observation until she was given the all clear.
The teen sat her exams the following day and did not require any further medical treatment after her ordeal.
Rozana said: “For me as a mother, seeing her on the ground unconscious, I believe it is a miracle.
“I started doing some research and I hope this information gets to more people so they know how dangerous swimming pools are. My daughter could have died.”
