According to local media, several other rooftops were blown from nearby buildings and many homes and vehicles were damaged due to flying debris.

After the storm had passed, emergency service teams assessed the damage and cordoned off areas affected by overhanging materials or at risk of further collapse, according to reports.

The local community also hoped to clean up the area and resident Sabahattin Aktay told reporters that many locals were scared during the strong winds, which he said appeared very suddenly.

Aktay added: “I was indoors at the time, near a busy car park. I don’t know from which building it came, but a large section of roofing materials struck the windows.

“I was scared and ran away. The storm also damaged many vehicles in the car park.”

According to local media, no one was injured during the spell of heavy winds.
