This footage shows a driver failing to stop at a red light and mowing down five people as he ploughs through a crossroads.

The dramatic crash happened at the junction of Renmin Road and Laodong Road in Lanxi, a city in East China’s Zhejiang Province, on 2nd September.

Traffic camera video shows the driver, Mr Wan, 23, approaching the red light where over half a dozen cars are stopped.

However, he fails to slow down and appears to veer away at the last second in a bid to avoid rear-ending a stopped car.

But the video shows his SUV still fails to stop and instead crashes through a traffic barrier into the bicycle and non-motorised vehicle lane, where he mows down a group of scooter riders and pedestrians, and then whips out one more waiting in front of an adjacent zebra crossing.

Mr Wan finally stops and turns his car, frightening away three pedestrians who had been watching on the far end of the crossroads.

Lanxi police said Mr Wan was cleared of drink- and drug-driving, while all five victims are receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Mr Wan is believed to have been detained as the cause of the crash is being investigated.
