This is the moment a cute cat stuck to ice on a partially frozen Russian river is pulled to safety with a lasso by rescuers.

The cute feline was spotted from the Naberezhnaya 1 Maya embankment in the city of Astrakhan in south-western Russia’s Astrakhan Oblast region by a female passerby.

The cat was reportedly meowing and unable to move on the ice. It also appears to be lying on a piece of plastic. The woman, whose name is not reported, immediately called the animal rescue services to help the feline in need.

In order to save the cat, a rescuer used an improvised lasso to move it back to the solid ground.

In the video, the rescuer can be seen hooking the lasso around the cat and pulling it to safety as it meows loudly.

The moggy is lifted to safety by the unnamed rescuer and local media report onlookers immediately cleaned the cat’s paws and massaged them to make sure the blood circulation was good and the feline was feeling fine.

As there were no vacant spots at a local animal shelter, the cat has been taken in by one of the volunteers for the time being.

Local volunteers are looking for a permanent home for the cat.

Netizen ‘Denis Tkachuk’ said: “This is the beginning of the second life for this kitty. Thank you to those kind-hearted people.”

And ‘Lana Kolos’ commented: “You did such a wonderful job. God bless you and your kind hearts.”
