The video shows a car driver losing one of the tyres after it suddenly detached and rolled down the motorway without the driver noticing.

Smartphone footage recorded in the city of Xiaogan, in China’s east-central Hubei province, showed the driver in the white vehicle speeding along the Fuyin Expressway at around 3:30pm on 21st January.

But just seconds into the video, one of the driver’s tyres suddenly detached from the car and began rolling down the road, as they continued to speed along without realising what had happened.

A woman identified as He Tao Ni, who recorded the incident while driving behind, told Chinese media it was a shocking scene to witness.

She said: “At that time, I felt something was wrong with the car in front of me. The tyres were so flat that they were smoking. Guess what The tires just ran away from their home!

“But then, the driver acted like nothing was wrong and continued to drive his vehicle forward.”

The terrified woman said it was the first time she experienced something similar while on the road, and explained how at the time she slowed down to avoid the speeding tyre coming her way.

The video triggered an avalanche of comments after it was shared on China’s version of TikTok, Douyin, later that day.

Douyin user ‘Another sheep’ said: “When the tyre fell off, the driver drove off as if nothing had happened.”

Then user ‘A little smoke, lonely’ said: “I just wanted to ask why he could continue to drive forward so securely even if one of his tyres fell off, and there was nothing unusual at all!”

And ‘Drama master’ added: “So scary.”
