This is the shocking moment a young man rides the handrail down an escalator before losing his balance and plummeting to the floor below.
The incident was filmed in a shopping centre in the city of Irbid, in the north-western Jordanian governorate of the same name, on 28th March.
According to local reports, the young man, name not disclosed, was sitting on the handrail down to the floor below when he lost his balance and plunged through the gap, landing heavily on the floor in front of two shocked women.
The man reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received medical treatment following the incident.
In the CCTV footage, the young man is seen travelling down the escalator while seated on the handrail.
He then loses his balance and falls backwards, hitting his leg on the rail below and plummeting to the next floor.
Meanwhile, several young men, possibly in the victim’s company, see him fall and rush to check on him as the video ends.
The second clip shows the man falling from the escalator above and landing hard on the floor.
He lies motionless as two women walk away in distress.
It is unclear if the shopping centre or local authorities are investigating the incident.
Irbid City has the second largest metropolitan population, with just over 2 million citizens, in Jordan after the capital Amman.
The Irbid region is also home to several colleges and universities, including the Jordan University of Science and Technology and Yarmouk University.
