WHAT A LOT I BUN: Man Sent to Buy Hot Dogs Scoops USD 100,000 On Lottery

A Wisconsin man has won over USD 100,000 with one-in-169,911 odds after his wife sent him out to buy hot dogs and he bought USD 10 worth of lottery tickets.

Newsflash obtained a statement from the Wisconsin Lottery in which it said that the lucky winner, who has been named as Joseph Bednarek, won the jackpot after his “hot dog run turned into a hot win”.

The win took place in Madison, which is the capital city of the Upper Midwestern US state of Wisconsin, on Tuesday, 22nd March, with the information only being revealed now.

Bednarek, who is retired, had been sent out to buy hot dogs by his wife Ellen.

The Wisconsin Lottery said: “Joseph Bednarek’s wife sent him out for hot dogs and other groceries.

“Joseph went to Pick ‘N Save, 55 W. Pioneer Rd., Fond du Lac.”

Fond du Lac is a city in Fond du Lac County, also in the US state of Wisconsin.

After seeing what the jackpot was for the lottery, Bednarek decided to buy some tickets.

The Wisconsin Lottery added: “Joseph said after checking out, he saw the high Badger 5 jackpot on the Lottery sign and bought USD 10 worth of tickets.”

He then returned home with the hot dogs that Ellen had asked him to get, before he “checked his numbers the next day and realized he had gone on a very lucky grocery run as he held the jackpot-winning ticket”.

The Wisconsin Lottery said that Bednarek is retired and that he is going to use his cash windfall to fix up his home, putting the rest in his savings.

The lottery said in its statement: “Joseph is retired and plans to use the winnings to complete house repairs and add to savings.”

The lottery tickets that Bednarek bought are part of a lotto game that has a rolling jackpot, with odds of winning being one in 169,911. The Wisconsin Lottery said: “Badger 5 is a Wisconsin-only lotto game with a rolling jackpot starting at USD 10,000. The odds of winning the Badger 5 jackpot are 1 in 169,911. Tickets are USD 1 per play.”

Madison is said to be a quintessential American city, with a reputation for good cheese and craft beers. It also features an annual flyover show with military jets and boasts a strong athletics crowd based around the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
