Local media report the cyclist sent his father a picture and a message telling him he was going to begin training at nine in the morning moments before suffering the fatal accident.

The Secretary of Mobility office in the area claim the cyclist “violently crashed into a railing and then hit a rock” causing the death after losing control of his bicycle.

Londono’s father Ignacio Londono spoke with local media regretting his son’s death after an “absurd accident” and said: “My son was a person that loved bicycles, it was his passion.

“He was happy working at a bicycle firm. He died in an absurd accident. He was a professional cyclist for a long time and now he was dedicated to cycling in a recreational way.”

The Governor of Caldas, the department where the young cyclist was from, Guido Echeverri, released a statement mourning the death of the cyclist saying: “The passing of Miguel Londono deeply hurts us, our athlete with the Caldas badge.

“He left us in the bloom of his life and leaves behind his family, friends, athletes and trainers with a deep emptiness.”

The circumstances under which Londono lost control of his bike are unclear.
