This unsettling footage shows a man following a nine-year-old girl into a block of flats after reportedly stalking her from school but she manages to give him the slip and runs off to find her dad.

The young girl, identified as nine-year-old Varvara from the town of Stupino just outside the western Russian capital Moscow, was walking home from school when a tall man started following her, according to reports.

As seen in the CCTV footage, as the schoolgirl waits to be buzzed into the block of flats, the suspect lingers on the pavement before following her inside.

Suspecting that something might be off, Varvara decided to trick the man and she hid in a hall next to the lifts before leaving the building.

Meanwhile, the man follows her to the lift area and he is seen looking around for the girl as he pretends to wait for the lift.

He then walks towards the exit as the girl re-enters the building with another man who was later identified as her father.

The girl’s mother Olga said: “The man followed her all the way from her school to our building. He was waiting for her to leave the supermarket while smoking outside.”

She added that little Varvara did not have a phone with her at the time and it was by chance that she bumped into her father outside.

Olga said: “It was pure luck she came across her dad as he usually never comes home at that time.”

The mother added that Varvara said she was very scared at the time and used her intuition to outsmart the suspect.

According to local media, the man is a patient of a nearby psychiatric facility and he has since been arrested by the police.
