A Canadian pro boxer known as the ‘Heart Breaker’ has been arrested in Playa del Carmen for double attempted femicide after he attacked two women, punching one of them so hard her nose broke in three places.
Peter Nowaczek, 27, was arrested in the popular Mexican tourist destination following the incident that took place in the Coyote Lounge Bar on Saturday night (4th December).
According to one of the victims, the suspect approached the two women and tried to flirt with them, but they rebuked his attempts.
When it appeared he was walking away, he then suddenly turned around and ran towards the women before punching one of them in the face until she passed out, said the friend.
The injured woman, named in reports as Jamie Coutts, reportedly had her nose broken in three places and is now having difficulty breathing.
She also sustained a chipped tooth and a badly injured eye, and she will have to undergo surgery in Mexico before she can return home to Vancouver.
She is currently staying in a hotel and must attend regular hospital checkups before her operation, which is not yet scheduled and could be as distant as six weeks away.
She was on holiday when the incident took place and she was not covered by travel insurance at the time. She is now having to crowdfund to pay her medical and accommodation expenses.
The woman’s friend was also punched in the attack and needed stitches to her head.
Coutts previously hit headlines earlier this year after she filmed a man following her for over half an hour.
Mohammed Majidpour, 34, was later charged with criminal harassment, but the charge was subsequently stayed.
Nowaczek hails from Toronto and made his boxing debut in 2019. He has fought four bouts in the cruiser division and competes under the alias ‘Heart Breaker’.
