Karlan Denio, 62, is accused of killing, dismembering, and disembowelling his wife, Connie Denio, at their home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.

He is believed to have committed the gruesome crime just hours before family arrived for Thanksgiving dinner on 24th November.

According to reports, Denio’s brother Darin Denio arrived at the home first but found it strange when no one answered the door.

He phoned his sister Tami Pacheco, who then called Albuquerque Police Department.

When the call handler told Tami police would not be able to break into the property, Darin drove to her home to pick her up.

The two then returned to Denio’s house and got in through the garage after breaking a door hinge.

Inside, they came across the gruesome scene of Connie’s body parts splayed out on the bedroom floor, while Denio lay in bed.

Tami then made a second call to police.

Officers who arrived on the scene noted that Connie had been “dismembered and disemboweled”.

Denio was found with cuts to the neck and legs. At the time of reporting, he was recovering from his injuries in a nearby hospital.

Local media reported that relatives told cops that two years earlier, medics had diagnosed Denio with frontotemporal dementia (FTD).

The NHS describes FTD as “an uncommon type of dementia” that causes “personality and behaviour changes” that include “acting inappropriately or impulsively”.

A 2010 study by neurologist Mario F. Mendez found sufferers of FTD “are particularly prone to sociopathic behavior while retaining knowledge of their acts and of moral and conventional rules”.
