A mother has allegedly killed her one-year-old baby boy just after celebrating his birthday by slitting his throat with a kitchen knife.

Mum Cristina, 36, then reportedly jumped from the roof of the four-story building and was found seriously injured in the street. She was taken to the La Fe Hospital in Vilamarxant, a municipality in Valencia, Spain, on Monday, 27th February, at around 10 am.

Investigators then found baby Eric’s lifeless body in a storage room in her home. The family had just celebrated his first birthday two days before, according to local media.

Local media has speculated that Cristina, last name not reported, was suffering from postpartum depression after giving birth, having moved to the small town of 11,000 people in 2017 with her husband and her eldest child, names and ages not reported.

Cristina reportedly left a suicide note explaining her actions, the details of which had not been revealed at the time of writing.

Investigators currently believe that she slit little Eric’s throat in the bathtub with the knife before making her way to the roof of the building and jumping.

The dad and the other child were reportedly shocked when they arrived on the scene and were told what had happened, although the dad reportedly said that Cristina had tried to take her own life before.

The Mayor of the town, Xavier Jorge, said: “The circumstances of the baby’s death are being investigated […].”

The baby’s body is set to undergo an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
