Boy, 16, Jailed For 7 Years For Sexually Assaulting Girl In Lift In Turkey

This is the moment a 16-year-old boy looks straight into the security camera before assaulting a young woman in a lift in Turkey, leading to him being jailed for seven years.

The incident took place in a residential building in the Turkish city of Istanbul on 11th December 2021.

The teen, identified as a foreign national with the initials A. A., was arrested by the police in Istanbul after being identified by CCTV footage.

The suspect had harassed the young woman a year previously and did so again after following her home on the night in question.

The teen reportedly jumped walls and entered the building via a rear entrance due to security measures at the front entrance. He then entered the lift at the same time as her.

In the lift footage, the suspect is seen standing behind the victim as she stands with her back turned.

He then inadvertently gives himself away by looking straight into the CCTV camera and moving it with his hand before attacking her.

However, he does not realise that the camera has a wide-angle lens and it continues to film all his subsequent actions.

After exchanging a few words, the teen grabs the victim and ends up pushing her onto the floor, where he pins her down with his body weight.

But before being forced to the floor, she manages to press a button, and when the lift door suddenly opens, the teen darts outside.

After the ordeal, the young woman reported the attack to security guards, who called the police and escorted her home.

Officers arrived on the scene and checked the CCTV cameras in the building and surrounding area to determine the suspect’s escape route.

As a result, A. A. was promptly identified and arrested by the police.

The trial started last week and the defendant apologised directly to the victim, stating that he was drunk at the time and fled the lift “out of fear” when he came to his senses.

Announcing its decision at the first hearing, the court sentenced A. A. to seven years in prison for ‘qualified sexual assault’.
