This is the moment a brave mum handbags a knife-wielding kidnapper as he tries to snatch her daughter from the back of a bicycle in Mexico.

Astonishing footage of the fight back shows the pair being chased down the street by a man who has just leapt out of a car in Ecatepec, Mexico State, on 9th December.

Caught on CCTV, the would-be abductor tries to snatch the child from the bike, but her mum stops dead and swings at him with her bag.

The kidnapper grabs the girl and starts to walk back to the car but is confronted again by her furious bag-swinging mum.

Finally, he lets the girl go and brandishes the knife before fleeing back to the car.

Local media reported that police are investigating the attempted kidnapping.

Neither the mother nor her daughter have been named.

But social media users hailed the girl’s mum a hero.

One said: “It’s good that her mother was not afraid and took care of her daughter.”

And another scornful of police protection said: “Apparently we all have to leave the house with machetes to take care of these fiends.”

The kidnap bid footage emerged on social media as local mayor Fernando Vilchis boasted that he has made the city safe for women.
