This is the moment the driver of a 4WD vehicle runs over a bus driver who was standing in front of his vehicle reportedly preventing him from leaving the scene of an accident.

Smartphone footage shot by eyewitnesses shows the bus driver standing between the bumper and the front wheel of the red Toyota vehicle while speaking on his phone in the Colombian capital city of Bogota.

The Toyota driver, later named by cops as Jose Mauricio Gil Vasquez, appeared to become frustrated and decides to start driving forwards despite the presence of the bus driver in front of his vehicle.

But the bus driver is stuck between the bumper and the front wheel and cannot escape, he is knocked over by the Toyota and the vehicle runs over his legs.

The motorists filming the action, who had earlier been laughing at the way the bus driver was preventing the Gil Vasquez from driving off, can be heard shouting out in horror.

Eyewitnesses later revealed the Toyota had been involved in a collision with a public bus and the bus driver had stood in front of the 4WD to prevent Gil Vasquez from leaving the scene before the cops arrived.

Gil Vasquez was later arrested by police. Juan Pablo Bocarejo, the Transport Secretary of Bogota, confirmed he would be charged with running over the bus driver and be made to pay compensation for his injuries.

The bus driver, whose name has not been released, was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital. He escaped with only minor leg injuries and his condition is not serious.

However, the video of the incident has sparked outrage in Bogota with many online commentators urging the authorities to make Gil Vasquez face the full legal consequences of his actions.
