This is the moment a young boy plunges down a narrow well outside his home and his hero granddad leaps in after him.

The dramatic CCTV video was captured in the town of Luoyang in coastal Quanzhou City in East China’s Fujian Province on 7th May.

The footage shows the grandfather, surnamed Lin, standing in his courtyard while his grandson and two other children are seen running around and playing together.

His grandson climbs onto the concrete cover of the well which then suddenly crumbles, sending the boy plunging down the well and into the water below.

The other children who witness the accident run away in shock, while Lin sprints over to the well opening and immediately prepares to rescue the boy as soon as he spots him below.

He can be seen climbing over the lip and leaping inside, holding briefly on the rim before dropping into the water of the well as other adults arrive on scene.

According to reports, Lin grabbed his grandson and helped him out with the other adults, and later climbed out of the well by himself.

Neither he nor the boy was injured thanks to the grandad’s heroics.

Lin said: “It was my own flesh and blood. I had to jump.”

But he added: “I’d have done the same for anyone else’s child.”

Lin revealed the concrete well cover had been cracked by a falling parasol several days earlier, and that they had not had a chance to replace it yet.
