Man Trips On Steps And Bumps Head On Open Door While Staring At Phone

The video shows a man learning the dangers of texting while walking after he tripped on a step and hit his head on an open door while staring at the screen.

Surveillance camera footage recorded in the city of Ningbo, located in China’s eastern province of Zhejiang, showed the man typing away on his phone while walking on 16th January.

Having failed to notice that he was approaching a set of steps, he then tripped on one of them before falling to the ground and bumping his head into the open door of a nearby shop.

He could then be seen rubbing his head in an attempt to ease the pain, as a woman in a red jacket approached him and helped him get up.

Chinese media revealed that the man’s family demanded a CNY 50,000 (GBP 5,533) compensation from the store’s owners.

It was not disclosed whether the owners accepted the compensation request. However, recalling the incident, they said: “From the moment he entered the area covered by our surveillance camera, he didn’t even look at the road.

“Instead, he kept playing on his phone and continuously held his head down.”

The video became a massive hit after it was posted on the Chinese microblogging website Weibo. And on TikTok’s sister app for China, Douyin, later that day.

Weibo user ‘Han_Maurice_Han’ said: “It’s wrong to open the door, it’s wrong to take the steps, it’s wrong to go out.”

Then user ‘Secretary of the Children’s Palace Committee’ commented: “Why blame the steps instead of the door? It’s the door that directly hurt you.”

And ‘Seven kilometers children are accompanied by deer’ added: “It’s time to sue the mobile phone store!”
