A 23-year-old man has died at a Brazilian beauty spot while taking selfies in a water-filled ravine.

Eyewitnesses told the local authorities that the victim was taking selfies at the scene when he became trapped between rocks.

The body of the man, who was with his cousin and some friends at the time, was removed from the small cave-like ravine by eyewitnesses by the time firefighters arrived.

According to the fire brigade, the small crevasse is a popular photo spot for visitors and usually only fits one person at a time.

Firefighters tried to resuscitate the young man at the scene, but he had already passed away.

As access to the beauty spot is difficult to reach, the authorities made a makeshift stretcher to carry the young man’s body to a more secure area.

The body of the victim, who worked at a local gym and driving school, was sent to a forensics facility to undergo an autopsy.
