Lottery tickets that can be purchased with pre-chosen numbers are popular in India, with small stands or individuals selling them on the street where there is no need for an Internet connection or an electronic terminal to allow chosen numbers to be registered.

The lottery agent, identified only as N. K. Gangadharan from the town of Atholi, in Kerala State, India, scooped the massive GBP 98,595 win on the Fifty Fifty game last week.

The grand win reportedly followed after he matched the right numbers on one of the tickets that he had failed to sell after buying it with a no-returns policy for the drawing on 4th October.

It meant Gangadharan was left with the ticket and when he checked it, was amazed that he had won. He revealed that he had worked as a bus conductor for 33 years before he decided to open his own lottery market, named Devika Store, four years ago.

He said that he decided to keep the news to himself upon finding out about the win, because all the banks were closed and he had to wait to collect the prize until the next morning.

Gangadharan said that the next morning, he immediately handed the winning ticket over to the State Bank of India Atholi Branch.

Meanwhile, Kerala lottery officials announced that six other people who had all gotten their tickets at Gangadharan’s store had won INR 5,000 (GBP 50) each in the same drawing.

This is the first time that the man’s small store has won the jackpot, claimed media.
